Surprise!

拳打三不知
Hitting unexpectedly

三不知 literally means the three ignorances.

The three ignorances usually refers to being unaware the beginning, the middle and the end.

The three ignorances in martial arts also refers to the body, the heart (or intent) and the spirit.

The three ignorances in martial arts also refers to oneself, one’s opponent and onlookers if any.

The three ignorances in martial arts also refers to the eyes, the hands and the feet.

Hence, a perfect hit is when one is totally unaware he/she moved, just suddenly finding one’s opponent on the ground.

Hence, a perfect hit is when one’s body, heart (or intent) and spirit did not show any sign of moving.

Hence, a perfect hit is when not only one but also the opponent and onlookers are totally unaware of what happened.

Finally, a perfect hit is when one neither looked at the opponent nor knowingly pushed on the ground or hardened his/her grip on the weapon.
