Greenish Black And Blackish Green

劍走青,刀走黑
The sword goes green, the sabre black.

Green because of the homophony with the character for light.

Black refers to the need to be violent.

The sword draws lines, hence the need to be light and agile and its connection with calligraphy.

The sabre sweeps whole areas, hence the need to be forceful and the broom or wood cutting trainings.

Sword moves are light, short, fine and slight.

Sabre moves are fierce, violent and ruthless.

Light, short, fine and slight moves the sabre when it shifts.

Fierce, violent and ruthless moves the sword when it pokes.

A slim body prefers the sword, a sturdy the sabre.
